At the first Workshop in 2002 we realised that it was not even possible to compare caries trials as they were measured in different ways. This lead to the launch of the ICDAS group that became a charity, the ICDAS Foundation. In 2004 the ICDAS concept was to work towards a harmonised evidence-based international system and since the early days this was described using four ICDAS domains with analogies to a wardrobe – this was published in 2007.
Having spent much time in the intervening years developing the CariesCare philosphy we launched CariesCare International as an entity in Copenhagen in July 2018.
Through various meetings, discussions, workshops and policy labs between 2010 and the present time we have arrived at the concept of the CariesCare International Practice Guide incorporating the 4 Ds.
Some of the venues, publications and associated graphics are shown here.
The Global Collaboratory for Caries Management, led by King’s College London and its International Partners, now provides an “umbrella” under which the work of CariesCare International, the ICDAS Foundation and the Alliance for a Cavity-Free Future (ACFF) can come together synergistically to make a difference in caries prevention and management.
