A set of five videos entitled ‘100 years of learning from research: GV Black to CariesCare International’ are now available on this site (Link to Symposium). These feature the presentations from the Symposium that would have been chaired by Professors Nigel Pitts and Stefania Martignon given at the Centennial IADR Meeting in Washington DC in March 2020, had it not been cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Introduced in a short video by Nigel there then follow four individual presentations covering the ‘4 Ds’ of CariesCare International:
- 1st D: DETERMINE: Caries risk
How did we arrive to two caries-risk levels? Svante Twetman, University of Copenhagen
- 2nd D: DETECT and assess lesions:
Why merge ICDAS caries codes into three categories? Stefania Martignon, El Bosque University
- 3rd D: DECIDE: A personal care plan
What is the patient’s perspective and why is it relevant? Tim Newton, King’s College London
- 4th D: DO: Preventive and tooth preserving care
How to manage in the clinic the individual risk and caries lesions for long-term results. Justine Kolker, The University of Iowa
The Symposium aims to take the viewer on a journey from G V Black’s early steps of taking research into practice through to our 21st century understanding of the caries process and its application to current oral health care.
